Building Green Homes
WaterSense Label
WaterSense is an EPA partnership program that helps consumers recognize programs and products that save water without compromising quality. Independent licensed certifying bodies certify that products meet EPA standards for water efficiency and performance. Certifying organizations test products for conformance to WaterSense specifications, performance, efficiency, verify label use, and conduct market surveillance. In order for companies to use the WaterSense label, they must sign a WaterSense partnership agreement, which includes specific standards as well as proper use of the WaterSense label.
In order to bear the WaterSense label the certain criteria must be met:
-
-
Perform as well or better than their less efficient counterparts.
-
Are 20 percent more water efficient than average products in that category.
-
Realize water savings on a national level.
-
Provide measurable water savings results.
-
Achieve water efficiency through several technology options.
-
Are effectively differentiated by the WaterSense label.
-
Obtain independent, third-party certification.[1]
WaterSense, along with two other eco-labels, is featured in this short clip by Greenovation TV's Matt Grocoff, who discusses green labels consumers can really count on in big box stores.
